The story told by the stunning tsuba is of a mantis stealthily stalking the cricket, unaware that he is himself being stalked by the Golden Oriole. The deeply lacquered blue of the saya is repeated in the Japanese cotton tsuka-ito, and the Oriole appears again on the kashira.
Matching the Paul Chen SH 1018 Golden Oriole Katana, the Wakizashi features a deeply lacquered blue saya and Japanese cotton tsuka-ito, and the Oriole appears again on the koshirae. The blade from the Hanwei factory is hand-forged in high-carbon steel and is edge-tempered to display a distinct hamon.
