The Greek word "parazonium" means "worn on a belt" and is used to designate a type of ceremonial dagger used in ancient Rome. Ancient coins often show gods, heroes and rulers carrying parazonium at their left or in their left hand. Even if the history books are not in complete agreement, daggers are usually considered more status symbol than combat weapon.
Our Roman Parazonium has a relatively wide, rapidly tapering steel blade reinforced by a distinctive centre rib that leaves no doubt that this weapon was made for thrusting. The grip and the studded pommel are made from a single piece of wood painted dark brown, while the hand guard is made of a rectangular wooden plate sandwiched between two rectangular steel plates. Our Roman Parazonium comes complete with a dark brown leather scabbard with brass fittings.
