Product Description

Developed by Matt Easton and Windlass Steelcrafts, this sword is heavily inspired by the original that rests in the National Museum of Ireland, and was discovered near Askeaton in County Limerick.

This Petersen Type A/Behmer Type VIII sword is characterized by an ergonomic and comfortable hilt, and a light and agile blade. The balance point is only 10.5cm from the guard, making this sword extremely quick and responsive, designed to dart around enemy shields. The grip features leather that is dimpled using a historically authentic "wet-wrap" process, during which fine cord is tightly wrapped around a wet leather grip. When it's dry, the cord is removed and the leather is left attractively indented and provides improved texture and grip.

Interestingly, the hilt has a feature rarely seen on swords from this era - decorative spacers between the grip, pommel and guard. Constructed like many Viking swords, the blade is peened to the lower section of the 2-part pommel and the upper section is riveted on.

The original has no scabbard, but this reproduction is provided with a high quality period design crafted with a wood core and wrapped in leather and includes a belt. The 1075 high carbon steel blade arrives sharpened form the factory.
